Cox Communications Powers Massive Enterprise Application with MySQL

MySQL Used for 2-billion Row Data Warehousing Application at Fourth-Largest
Cable Television Provider

SEATTLE, Wash - (July 9, 2003) - MySQL AB, developer of the world's most popular
open source database, today announced that Cox Communications (NYSE: COX), the
fourth-largest cable television provider in the U.S., is using the MySQL® database
to run a major data warehousing enterprise application that helps Cox make more
informed business decisions and provide better customer care.

Cox Communications is a Fortune 500 company that offers multi-service broadband
communications solutions. It serves approximately 6.3 million basic customers in
the U.S. Cox uses Version 4.0 of the MySQL database for a business-critical data
warehousing application that manages a variety of cable modem information, maintains
cable firmware, provides an interface to customer care for real-time support and
expedites internal and customer trending and analysis.

Cox's MySQL application pulls data from over 1.2 million cable modems, keeping
a 30-day snapshot of the data. It runs across 27 collection servers with over
3,600 MySQL tables. MySQL's replication feature is used to keep four copies of
the database distributed across several large servers. The MySQL application
currently has over 2 billion rows doing about 4 million inserts every two hours.

"Based on the success and outstanding performance we've seen from MySQL, we will
be moving from our 30-day snapshot up to 90 days," said Mark Cotner, manager of
Network Application Development. "We expect that MySQL database will soon be
about 600 GB in size, and we are confident that performance will remain strong."

The MySQL database is a high-performance relational database management system for
Web site and business application development and deployment. The MySQL database
maximizes speed, stability and ease of deployment with a streamlined and functionally-rich
feature set. It is one of the most widely-used databases in the world, with over
4 million installations.

"Cox Communications' application is strong proof that MySQL can be an ideal solution
for large, demanding enterprise implementations," said Mårten Mickos, MySQL CEO. "In
addition to the performance and stability that Cox has experienced, they also benefit
from MySQL's extremely low total cost of ownership."
