Shell selects Invensys for smart fields initiative; partnership will help Shell optimize oilfield operations

FOXBORO, Mass., July 26, 2004--Shell International Exploration and Production BV ("Shell") has selected Invensys as one of the strategic partners for its Smart Fields(TM) initiative. The decision was made based on Invensys' domain expertise, the unique enabling technologies provided by the ArchestrA architecture and the ArchestrA Collaboration Environment (ACE), and Invensys' business process consulting capabilities. The multi-year agreement leverages Invensys' experience in the production of oil and gas reserves, its capabilities in adaptive collaboration, and its data integration expertise.

"The goal for Smart Fields development is to bring together new capabilities (people, processes, and technologies) to continually optimize and protect the life cycle value of Shell's E&P assets," stated John Darley, Director Technology EP for Shell International Exploration and Production B.V. "We selected Invensys as our production management partner because of the company's industry-leading ACE technology and its ability to create, in conjunction with Shell and our other partners, a standardized solution for Shell's global upstream operations. We believe Invensys is uniquely positioned to help Shell deliver our Smart Fields vision."

"We're delighted that Shell selected Invensys to be part of the Smart Fields team and are fully dedicated to the success of this important initiative," said Michael Caliel, president of Invensys Process Systems. "The development of Smart Fields demands that Shell find ways to extract more value out of its installed based of equipment and systems by making much better use of the massive amounts of data being generated. This can be accomplished by ensuring that the right data is delivered to the right people, in the right context, and at the right time, thus enabling individuals at all levels to make better decisions."

"Our ArchestrA Collaboration Environment, developed in conjunction with Microsoft, provides an enabling platform that seamlessly connects plant automation and information systems to business systems to enable more effective collaboration and real-time decision support across an E&P enterprise," added Calvin Cobb, vice president of Global Hydrocarbons Consulting for Invensys.
