FileNet helps Maryland Workers' Compensation Commission streamline processes to deliver workers' benefits faster

Commission's FileNet System Meets State Mandate to Web-Enable 80 Percent of Agency Business Processes

COSTA MESA, Calif., June 20, 2005 -- FileNet Corporation (Nasdaq: FILE), the leading provider of Enterprise Content and Business Process Management solutions, today announced that the Maryland Workers' Compensation Commission (WCC) is in the final phase of implementation of its FileNet-powered Web-Enabled File Management System (WFMS). The system, which takes advantage of FileNet's content and business process management technology, enables the Commission to better serve Maryland's workers and employers while complying with state electronic government regulations.

Focused on securing the equitable and timely administration of the provisions of the Maryland Workers' Compensation Law on behalf of its customers, the injured workers and their employers, the WCC adjudicates claims filed by injured workers. Previously, the Maryland WCC utilized an automated locator filing system to track cases. Even with this system in place, Commission staff found it difficult to rapidly make decisions on worker or employer inquiries. Today, Maryland WCC has increased its efficiencies with WFMS, which allows for Web-based filing and retrieval. WFMS provides fully integrated claims processing -- from online claim filing to hearing notice routing -- helping to streamline business processes, improve customer service, and connect the Commission's employees.

With the expanded WFMS, Maryland WCC has:

* Achieved compliance with Maryland state mandate to Web-enable 80 percent of all Commission business processes by 2004

* Provided more than 650 registered attorneys with 24/7 access to case files

* Streamlined management of more than 30 million pieces of content, a volume that grows by nearly 3,000 pieces daily

"FileNet's ECM solutions answered our challenges many years ago and continues to provide exceptional support for our evolving requirements," said Bob Timanus, chief technology officer and director of information technology, Maryland WCC. "By taking the FileNet-powered WFMS online, we are able to not only achieve regulatory compliance, but also enhance customer service, while improving communication and collaboration within the Commission."

This implementation represents expansion of the existing relationship between FileNet and the Maryland WCC. In 1994, the Commission implemented FileNet Image Manager and WorkFlo/Fax to automate case processing -- reducing processing time for claims from approximately four weeks to within 24-48 hours. Considering its successes to date, the Commission plans to continue expansion of its FileNet solutions to offer insurers and claimants 24/7 secure Web-access to case information.

"We are proud to play such an essential role in the Commission's electronic government initiatives," said Martyn Christian, chief marketing officer for FileNet. "The Commission's success with our solutions underscores the value of FileNet in enabling governments to improve internal efficiencies to help improve and increase delivery of service to their citizens."
