Appian Analytics to provide Gap Inc. with retail analytics and reporting to monitor store performance, merchandising trends, and supply chain status

SAN RAMON, Calif., June 30, 2005 -- Appian Analytics, Inc., a leading business analytics company, announced today that it has signed an agreement with Gap Inc. to provide business analytics and reporting services for monitoring performance across the Gap brands in the U.S.

"We will be monitoring all Gap Inc. brands, including Old Navy and Banana Republic, in addition to The Gap, and Gap brand Outlet Stores. Gap Inc. is a leading-edge corporation in monitoring merchandising trends and performance across their stores. We are pleased to be able to work with Gap Inc. on this important retail analytics project," says Tammy Ma, Director at Appian Analytics in the Retail Analytics Group, who specializes in clothing and apparel.

"Performance metrics include a wide range of interrelated factors such as merchandising and demand trends, inventory levels, customer perceptions and behavior, and store financial performance," Ma continues.

The mandate for this important project comes down directly from the top via The Gap Inc.'s President, Paul S. Pressler. The information is developed with the market research group and used in category management, brand management, strategic planning, market analysis, benchmarking, and in other performance tracking efforts.

As an established outsource company for business analytics with a specialization in retail analytics, Appian Analytics provides additional value with expert research automation capability. By leveraging the library of software for automating analytics, data processing, and graphical report production, Appian Analytics is able to provide highly efficient, timely, cost-effective, and high-quality results.

States Ma, "Using the automation software library has been instrumental in facilitating the chain store performance analysis process. I can't see how you could effectively integrate and monitor important retail and merchandising trends without it. This includes the use of traditional operational system data sets stemming from scanner-based/point of sale (POS) systems, enterprise resource planning (ERP), market research surveys, and data from syndicated sources such as AC Nielsen and IRI."
