Use the Multi-Factor Evaluator when: ** You have to select among several alternatives ** You want to make a decision "objectively" based on diverse factors ** You want to share your decision analysis with others Recommended process: 1. List the alternatives available. 2. Brainstorm decision factors. You will be judging your alternatives against the decision factors. 3. Determine the relative importance of each factor. Rank the decision factors and assign a relative importance (weight) to each. The total of the assigned weights should equal 10 (the program adjusts the weights). 4. Establish a rating scale; rate the alternatives. A rating scale might be: 1 = low and 10 = high or 1 = very unsatisfactory and 100 = very satisfactory. Each alternative should be evaluated against each factor using the same rating scale. 5. Calculate the final score. The program multiplies the weights and scores for each alternative. 6. Select the best alternative. Select the alternative with the highest score. Test your assumptions and examine the results.
