Subject: New NetVue 3.1 web-based document management solution Date: Mon, 23 Oct 2000 12:31:56 -0400 From: "Xpress Press(tm) News Service" To: "power@dssresources.com" FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AccuSoft announces NetVue(tm) 3.1 The latest version of AccuSoft's Document eMaging(tm) solution offers powerful functionality, including NetVue Content Manager(tm) WESTBOROUGH, MA -- October 23, 2000 -- /Xpress Press/ -- AccuSoft Corporation announces the new version of its innovative web-based document management solution - NetVue. NetVue allows users to access documents via the web. It does this securely, at high speed, with no explicit format conversions, no client software installations, and no lengthy HTML coding. You can publish your documents over the web in a variety of ways. It can be as simple as referencing documents stored in a directory accessible by your web server. Or, a connection can be established with your database through an ODBC connection. With the NetVue Content Manager(tm), you have the unique capability to do a full-text search on documents stored in image format - something that no other product offers. With NetVue Document Streaming(tm) (NDS), viewers can view documents up to 40 times faster then without NDS. The product supports over one hundred (100+) document image types and all formats are automatically converted, on the fly, to the most appropriate format for the web. In addition, NetVue has an extensive set of web-application server tools, which provides system administrators with complete control of the product as well as easy access to information being generated from users of the application. Jeff Katzif, AccuSoft's Vice President of Engineering says, "NetVue 3.1 combines the power of document management with the flexibility of the web. No other technology comes even close to NetVue 3.1." NetVue 3.1 enhancements include: ActiveX version of NetVue viewer: In addition to the existing NetVue Java viewer, a new ActiveX viewer has been added. It is designed to be compatible with the Java viewer as much as possible. Both viewers have the same HTML interface. So, in the HTML code, the user can easily switch between the Java viewer and the ActiveX viewer. It is even possible to use a parameterized ASP page, which allows the user to switch from one viewer to the other, upon demand. The major feature that differs ActiveX viewer from the Java viewer is that the ActiveX viewer is installed on the client's computer. The new ActiveX viewer: * Supports progressive viewing of bi-level images in NDS format. Performance is equal to the Java viewer. * Provides faster image scrolling and repainting than does the Java viewer. * Provides JScript/VBScript APIs as well as the opportunity to integrate the viewer into Visual Basic or Visual-C applications. * Makes it much more feasible to view large color images, than does the Java viewer. * Provides additional viewing modes: Page Only, Page and Thumbnails, and Thumbnails Only. * Provides improved user's control for scaling-to-gray and printing selected image areas. NetVue Content Manager: The new NetVue Content Manager combines the Content Extractor component from NetVue 3.0 with many new and powerful features. These features include the ability to: * Search the document repository and find image documents containing particular keywords and/or phrases. * View textual "abstracts" of image documents as well as original image documents. * Highlight keywords in image documents and navigate between hits. * Find and highlight particular keywords in the image document even if the document was not found using the NetVue Content Manager. (It is similar to the Find menu of a text processing application, but works on image documents.) * Obtain textual contents of image document (whole document or range of pages). The contents can be used as standard text, saved to a local file, or moved to another application using Clipboard, etc. Enhanced support for Office formats: NetVue 3.1 has added support of Office formats. The user can view MS Word and MS Excel documents in the same viewer as any other format supported by NetVue. MS Office documents are converted into raster image formats on the server side and are delivered using NDS format, allowing progressive viewing. All the annotation capabilities that are available in NetVue can be applied to MS Office documents. NetVue Server WEB-Tools: NetVue Server WEB-Tools is a web-application for NetVue system administrator, allowing full control of the NetVue server from any Internet location via a web-browser. This replaces the old-fashioned NetVue-3.0 Server Tools application, which runs as a local application. Improved performance of HTTP connection: NetVue utilizes two kinds of network connection: very fast TCP/IP connection (used in Intranets) and slower HTTP connection (used in Internet). The HTTP connection avoids the firewall and proxy problems when NetVue clients connect to a NetVue server. As the speed of data transmission is a critical issue, the server-side HTTP connection has been optimized to provide 50% less overhead. Major benefits of NetVue 3.1: * Extended viewing and integration functionality * Support for new document formats * Enhanced capabilities for image documents search, viewing and navigating, based on the textual content of the image document * Improved System Administrator support * Improved performance An evaluation copy of the latest version of NetVue is available for download from AccuSoft's website http://www.accusoft.com.
