Such standards are meant to support the growth of consumer markets by ensuring that the wealth of public and private sector location information and application resources are available for use by both developers and consumers of mobile applications and location services. The OpenLS Initiative will harness the business requirements of industry-leading organizations to drive a cooperative industry development project on which standardization is based. About Open GIS Consortium OGC is an international industry consortium of over 200 companies, government agencies and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geoprocessing specifications. OpenGIS Specifications establish common interfaces that "geo-enable" the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT, enabling technology developers to make complex spatial information and services accessible and useful with all kinds of applications.
