Documentum Unifies Collaboration and Enterprise Content Management

Brings Next-Generation Collaborative Solutions to the Enterprise

PLEASANTON, Calif. - July 30, 2002 - Documentum (Nasdaq: DCTM), the leading provider of enterprise content management (ECM), today announced the Documentum Collaboration Edition, which includes two new product offerings, Documentum Team Center and Documentum Collaboration Services. The Collaboration Edition also includes Documentum's Content Exchange Services, which include aggregation, distribution and cross-enterprise workflow services, to enable collaboration across businesses. All of these capabilities leverage Documentum's industry leading workflow capabilities for full lifecycle management - from content creation and capture, through content management and delivery, to archiving.

Documentum is the first vendor to deliver enterprise-class collaboration with complete content management capabilities. Until now, organizations were forced to choose between proprietary niche offerings, which deliver standalone collaboration features on a departmental scale, or content management applications that offer minimal collaboration features. Such incomplete offerings handle a limited number of content types, aggregate content from very few sources and provide only a fraction of the capabilities offered by Documentum.

Through Documentum's integration of collaboration and content management technologies, users can, for the first time, initiate collaborative activities at any point during the content management lifecycle or add powerful content management capabilities to their collaborative initiatives. Project teams can work together in a common project area, jointly creating deliverables, addressing issues and managing schedules and resources. The deliverables, team output and related collaborative content are captured and securely stored, and can be later referenced and integrated with other enterprise content and processes. Through wireless and off-line capabilities, project members will be able to work wherever and however they choose.

"Collaboration is a critical part of our business and a requirement for competing on a global basis," said Jack Woods, EDMS manager at The Shaw Group, a global leader in engineering, procurement and construction services. "We want to manage and control our content in a single location, within a collaborative environment. Having collaboration detached from our content management environment is just not an option. We are thrilled to see Documentum enhancing its collaboration products and look forward to the new solutions."

"Documentum has the ability to bring collaboration to an enterprise level, unifying collaboration and enterprise content management. Unlike other companies in this market space, Documentum has the end-to-end ability to collaborate on accurate, trusted enterprise content throughout its lifecycle," said Alan Pelz-Sharpe, OVUM research and consulting vice president.

The Documentum Collaboration Edition

The Documentum Collaboration Edition offering is designed to meet the mainstream collaborative needs of global enterprises, while delivering full ECM functionality. Only Documentum can provide a full suite of collaborative capabilities that capture and securely store all collaborative content, which can then be united with other enterprise content or later referenced as needed. Documentum Team Center is an out-of-box solution that includes both real time collaboration features, such as chat, email and an integration with WebEx, along with team collaboration capabilities such as shared workspace, task management, project templates, role support and integration with Microsoft Project. It builds on Documentum's proven collaboration and content management solution, iTeam. More than 150 global organizations, including Bechtel Corporation, one of the world's premier engineering, construction, and project management companies, have selected iTeam as the foundation for enterprise collaborative activities.

With Content Exchange Services, Documentum enables cross-enterprise collaboration. Content of any type can be aggregated from any source, including file systems, enterprise applications and web sites. Results from collaboration can be distributed to customers, employees and partners through an automated subscription model or cross-company workflows, allowing team members to collaborate within and across the enterprise.

Documentum will embed collaborative features into the Documentum platform to make them available as Collaboration Services to all content-rich applications powered by Documentum. With Collaboration Services, capabilities such as chat or discussion threads will be built-in features of the Documentum platform and can be leveraged by any third party application built on Documentum. Collaborative Services is expected to ship early next year.

"By delivering a feature-rich platform as well as pre-packaged offerings, Documentum, as a true platform vendor, offers customers freedom of choice to address their unique collaborative and content management requirements," said Dave DeWalt, president and CEO of Documentum.
