NATIONAL PARK SERVICE SELECTS TIMBERLINE'S ESTIMATING SOFTWARE FOR AGENCY-WIDE APPLICATION

Beaverton, Oregon - November 20, 2002 - The U.S. National Park Service has selected Timberline's (Nasdaq:TMBS) Estimating and Model Estimating software to handle estimating for construction, repair/rehabilitation, and preventative maintenance for all its facilities throughout the National Park System. The transaction includes 500 uses of Timberline's software, making this the largest software license sale in the company's 31-year history.

A $2.4 billion agency, the National Park Service oversees 384 natural, historical and recreational areas. These areas cover more than 83 million acres and are located in 49 States, the District of Columbia, and select U.S. Territories.

“More and more, we've seen a shift in the way government agencies and private companies are handling their estimating needs across the organization,” said Curtis Peltz, Timberline president and CEO. “Increasingly, organizations like the National Park Service are moving toward a standardized system that can scale to meet their growth, help control internal costs, and easily interface with other standard business applications.”

The National Park Service's selection of Timberline's software will enable the agency to use a single estimating system to complete condition assessments of current facilities. The agency will use Model Estimating to estimate new construction projects. Facilities include buildings, shelters, trails, roads, bridges, and other structures in the National Park System's supporting infrastructure.

The National Park Service worked with Timberline during a trial period. The trial was designed to ensure the software met or exceeded the agency's performance criteria.

Criteria included ease of use, strengths of a model estimating system, and ability to standardize a system within an agency that spans multiple sites and administers thousands of projects. In addition, the software had to interface with an existing work order management system.

During the trial period, National Park Service personnel completed more than 200,000 estimates ranging from single campgrounds to an entire newly planned visitors center.

Results showed Estimating's spreadsheet flexibility performed exceptionally well with the National Park Service's work order application, which was a key requirement. Timberline's software allowed the agency to interface with its current system to produce project work orders, which could be separated by the requisite categories of labor, materials, and equipment.

The agency also was impressed with Timberline's Higher Education Program, an effort that helps train future construction professionals. Through the program, Timberline donates software to qualified institutions for instructional use. To date, Timberline has granted its software to more than 500 colleges, universities and vocational schools nationwide.

National Park Service staff from all regions will access Timberline's estimating software from a central server located in the agency's main Washington, D.C. offices, where it has been installed. The agency will handle software training in house, beginning in January 2003 and extending through June of that year.

Timberline's Estimating is part of Timberline® Office, a collection of software that emphasizes improved data integration within businesses and with their business partners.
