Boeing Center for Integrated Defense Simulation Selects Quantum3D Independence For Advanced Military Aviation Simulation Applications

Quantum3D Independence IG Provides Open-Architecture, High-Fidelity, Multi-Channel Realtime Visual Computing Solution for Dome-Based Engineering Simulation

LONDON, UK, April 29, 2003 -- Quantum3D(R), Inc. announced today at ITEC that the Boeing Company (NYSE: BA) has selected Quantum3D's Independence(TM), the industry's first 4th generation Image Generator (IG), for use at the Boeing Center for Integrated Defense Simulation (IDS). Located in St. Louis, Missouri, the IDS Center is a state-of-the-art facility for military aviation modeling and simulation that prototypes and analyzes Boeing military aircraft products and weapon systems and their roles in network centric warfare. Quantum3D's solutions for realtime visual computing are on display in the company's booth No. 418 at ITEC April 29 - May 1 in London.

"This new system will allow us to simulate the increasingly complex aircraft and weapon systems employed in network centric warfare," said Phil Beck, IDS Center manager. "To meet our requirements, we needed the latest in open architecture IG technology combined with strong upgrade and life cycle support capabilities and the ability to operate in a secure environment."

"The design win at Boeing Center for Integrated Defense Simulation is a testament to Independence's ability to meet the most demanding of today's 60 Hz visual simulation requirements, while providing a unique path to meet future requirements via technology insertion," said Ross Q. Smith, Quantum3D co-founder and executive vice president of marketing and business development. "This latest win furthers the valuable partnership we have enjoyed with Boeing over the years in continuing to push the boundaries of fidelity in the visual simulation and training marketplace. We look forward to the integration of this first Independence IG, with many more to come."

About Independence

Independence is an integrated, open architecture, multi-channel IG solution optimized for 60 Hz geo-specific, multi-spectral, low-latency synthetic environment visual simulation and training applications. Independence combines up to 16 precisely synchronized NVIDIA(R) Quadro(R) GPUs per channel to provide industry leading Clarity(TM) 16 subpixel sample full scene anti-aliasing with performance that scales to 2.4 billion pixels and 10 million triangles per second. Independence includes Mantis(TM), Quantum3D's advanced realtime scene management software that features a unique "plug-in" architecture that enables systems integrators to develop program-specific capabilities that augment the Mantis' comprehensive set of IG features and effects. Independence also features IGM(TM), Quantum3D's comprehensive IG system management software. With its unique, system level parallel architecture, Independence is the first IG to provide "four nines" (0.9999) effective system availability for reduced IG downtime, along with intrinsic pre-planned-product improvement that enables cost effective technology insertion over the life of the system.
