US Army Knowledge Management (AKM) Selects Entrieva Software For Communities of Practice (COPS) Taxonomy Initiative

Software Will Enable Army to Design, Develop and Deploy Unlimited Taxonomies Across All of Its Communities for Improved Information Sharing and Knowledge Discovery

RESTON, Va., June 18, 2003 -- Entrieva announced today that the US Army Chief Information Officer (CIO) has chosen Entrieva's Semio suite for taxonomy development and deployment. The Entrieva Semio suite consists of SemioTagger and the Enterprise Knowledge Engineering Workbench (EKEW). Each of these software components taken together will provide the Army the ability to quickly design and develop highly customized taxonomies for over 100 Communities of Practice and enable rapid deployment of Army's knowledge base across its 1.2 million users. Entrieva's proven scalable SemioTagger software with Army specific taxonomies will deliver powerful capabilities for browsing, searching, navigating and discovering knowledge, including hidden relationships, patterns and trends, as well as "alert" notification when critical information is detected. With Entrieva's Semio suite, the Army will now have a single integrated platform that can seamlessly categorize and organize structured (e.g., databases) and unstructured (e.g., e-mail, text files, .pdf, .doc, .ppt files, Lotus notes files, etc) content from a large variety of data sources.

Col Timothy Fong, Chief Technology Officer of US Army Network Enterprise Technology Command chose Entrieva's Semio suite to facilitate the development of enterprise taxonomies and has effectively integrated it into the Army's portal, Army Knowledge Online. Catherine Michaliga, Director of Army Knowledge Management, Office of the Principle Director for Enterprise Integration, Army CIO stated, "We believe that Entrieva's Semio suite offers the right toolset for functional communities to develop their taxonomies and integrate them into the enterprise portal, effectively meeting the Army's dynamic, evolving needs for developing effective Communities of Practice. This capability will considerably improve the Army Knowledge Online search/browse capability and keeps the Army on the leading edge of forward looking knowledge management initiatives."

Thomas C. Lewis, President & CEO of Entrieva stated, "With Entrieva's Semio suite, the Army can now enable more effective information sharing and knowledge discovery across all of its Communities of Practice." Furthermore, he added, "Most information that people use on a day-to-day basis is not in a database, so our technology is a perfect fit. It harnesses all of the 'other' data, which can represent over 80% of the US Army's knowledge base, organizes it and puts it to productive use."

Using Entrieva's dynamic discovery software, users can use a simple "drag & drop" metaphor to perform extremely complex text mining operations across multiple taxonomies to "find the needle in the haystack." These taxonomies can consist of Entrieva's pre-packaged industry taxonomies or, in the case of Army Communities of Practice, customer-defined taxonomies or custom taxonomies supplied by Entrieva's partners. By enabling "on-the-fly" crossing of taxonomies, end users are able to isolate and discover critically relevant information that existing search and categorization software cannot uncover. Additionally, using Entrieva's "follow-me" technology, users can define pre- set parametric notification criteria and be alerted on any device (i.e. computer, telephone, wireless cell phone, PDA, Blackberry, etc.).

In response to the requirements of large enterprise customers, Entrieva's software also supports cost-effective interoperability with a broad range of enterprise applications through J2EE and .Net Web services support, provides new security capabilities and delivers easy-to-use administration and management tools for large scale deployments.
