Hyperion Software Speeds Corporate Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting for Wyndham International

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 18, 2003 -- Hyperion (Nasdaq: HYSL) today announced that Wyndham International is using Hyperion Business Performance Management software. Use of Hyperion's solutions has enabled this upscale and leading luxury hotel chain to create a centralized corporate repository for financial and operational data and unified systems for budgeting, planning and forecasting.

With hotels and resorts in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe, Wyndham needed a tool to quickly capture and integrate corporate budget information across the organization and convert multiple currencies. The company was using a series of spreadsheets that were difficult to manage and integrate, so the Wyndham team implemented Hyperion Planning in just three weeks with assistance from Dallas -based Hyperion Platinum Partner, InterRel Consulting, creating a corporate database of information available on the company's intranet. Now with Hyperion software, managers can access a unified source of information, and create reports and forecasts that reflect up-to-date information. For example, with payroll integrated into the corporate budgeting system, managers can create reports and forecasts that reflect subtle payroll adjustments. The integrated information feeds into departmental budgets.

"Before using Hyperion software, we had approximately 73 corporate departments that were all budgeted through spreadsheets," said Joe Rafferty, vice president, strategic planning systems for Wyndham International. "Now, we have a central database of corporate information and unified processes that enable us to reforecast every quarter by department. Previously, the budgeting process took intense manpower as we regenerated spreadsheets, emailed them out and made sure correct versions were being utilized."

The software also gives Wyndham the insight into areas where it can improve performance and profits. "We have an audit services department that goes out and performs audits on our hotels," Rafferty said. "Auditors can enter results via the Web into Hyperion Planning and then create reports analyzing the data. They can, for example, verify that each line item of the audit program is within our operating standards and make strategic decisions based on the results."

Rich Clayton, vice president of product marketing for Hyperion, said this is what Business Performance Management is about-providing companies with the insight needed for making profitable decisions and continuous performance improvement.

"Wyndham demonstrates how an efficient, collaborative planning process enables the company to spend less time managing spreadsheets and more time analysis and forecasting," Clayton said. "This helps Wyndham create plans and forecasts that reflect changing business conditions, quickly and cost effectively."
