Intergraph's GeoMedia Grid 5.2 now shipping worldwide

Latest release includes interoperability, viewing and performance improvements for spatial analysis and visualization

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. March 23, 2005 - Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions today announced GeoMedia(R) Grid 5.2, an advanced, fully integrated grid analysis toolkit for GeoMedia, is now shipping worldwide. GeoMedia Grid provides seamless integration of vector and grid data formats for viewing and analysis. GeoMedia Grid is ideally suited for carrying out complex spatial analysis, such as site location in urban planning, corridor planning for designing highway improvements and hot spot detection for environmental management and public safety.

GeoMedia Grid Version 5.2 expands on the product's functionality by improving data interoperability, expanding data viewing facilities, increasing performance and adding to and extending spatial analysis commands. GeoMedia Grid was developed in collaboration with Keigan Systems, a London, Ontario-based, company that specializes in developing decision-support mapping software. To support the continued growth of the GeoMedia Grid technology, Intergraph purchased a perpetual license for development rights to the software from Keigan Systems.

Key new features available in GeoMedia Grid 5.2 include:

-- New Import Wizard consolidates the import process and allows users to import data from several sources using a single interface. This new facility also includes full support of coordinate system files (CSF) for projections and datums and a set of programmatic interfaces for users who want to develop new translators for the Import Wizard.

-- New map blending window enables the blending of several grid layers into a single image suitable for published output to expand data viewing facilities. With an optimized interface that includes a preview window, blending modes and many more methods of merging images together, this feature will enable users to create meaningful output for presentations, feature articles, Web pages and more.

-- Enhanced isoline generation is a one-step command for characterization/conversion of GeoMedia Grid surface-to-linear feature class with Z value attributes and creates more cartographically pleasing isolines (contours).

-- New spatial analysis commands include Ordinary Kriging, the industry standard interpolation algorithm for statistical data sets; curvature calculation for automatically calculating the rate of change of a surface slope or aspect; insolation estimation to calculate/estimate sunlight intensity over a given surface in watts per square meter at a user-definable time and date and volume calculation to calculate the volume between two input surfaces for each cell within an area feature or above and/or below a designated surface.
