Crystal Decisions Improves User Access to ERP

Data by More Than 70% for Spectra Logic Employees

Crystal Decisions provides staff at Spectra Logic with fast, easy access to Baan data, resulting in increased productivity and significant cost-savings

PALO ALTO, CA—November 21, 2001—Crystal Decisions today announced that Spectra Logic has successfully implemented Crystal Decisions’ enterprise reporting, analysis and web-based information delivery solution to improve the distribution of critical information from its Baan enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, as well as its help desk management database. As a result, Spectra Logic sales, marketing, planning and finance staff experience increased productivity, significant cost-savings and the ability to make better business decisions.

"Crystal Decisions makes reporting extremely easy and provides a common solution for all departments to access information in the database in any format they like," said Mike Sausa, president of Spectra Logic. "Our legacy tool was inflexible and expensive to maintain. With Crystal Decisions we are saving money while gaining in functionality. Now we can produce sophisticated drill-down reports that were impossible previously."

The accounts payable department at Spectra Logic is now able to more efficiently match invoices to receipts, improving its ability to resolve outstanding vendor issues. The master scheduler is able to more graphically interpret master production scheduling data for improved production planning and better on-time delivery. Sales can track their daily quotas, and finance also has on demand access to revenue and expense data.

"Our users are thrilled with Crystal Decisions," said Sausa. "They can be up and running in ten minutes and they’re getting the information they need in a user-friendly form. It took four times as long to train our end users to execute a report with our legacy tool."

Spectra Logic is also using Crystal Decisions to access data from its help desk management database. "The call center manager uses Crystal Reports to track call center stats and improve call resolution time, as well as to track customer inventory profiles, resulting in better service," said Sausa. "We also have plans to improve information delivery to our vendors by pushing reports out through Microsoft Exchange. That’s going to mean huge productivity gains."

"Leading manufacturing firms like Spectra Logic have turned to Crystal Decisions to maximize the value of their ERP data by delivering it into the hands of employees across the enterprise," said Bill Gibson, chief operating officer for Crystal Decisions. "Our Baan solution improves the ability of any IT department to get fast, seamless access to Baan data—at the same time retaining business logic—so employees can access, analyze, report and share the data in a meaningful way for better business decisions."
