Ad Hoc Query

Any spontaneous or unplanned question or query. Ad hoc is from Latin and means "for the purpose". Ad hoc generally refers to any spontaneous process designed to answer a specific question. An ad hoc query is answered by dynamically constructed SQL and is one capability in a data-driven DSS. An ad hoc query is the opposite of a predefined and routinely performed query.
